Gynecology Q&A
What do well-woman gynecology exams include?
A well-woman exam is the best way to keep track of changes, evaluate your overall health, and plan for your healthy future. It’s a general checkup that focuses specifically on female concerns and needs.
Your well-woman exam includes a pelvic exam and clinical breast exam. In addition, Dr. Cardenas discusses many other women’s health topics with you at this time, including:
- Osteoporosis
- Sexual health
- Menopause support
- Pelvic floor problems
- Emotional and mental wellness
- Weight management
- Flu and other vaccines
- Diagnostic testing
Depending on your unique needs, Dr. Cardenas can customize your women’s wellness exam for you. You may need screenings and diagnostic testing according to your age, health history, and other factors specific to you.
What does gynecology diagnostic testing include?
Dr. Cardenas follows the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) guidelines for cervical cancer screening. For most women, this means a Pap test and human papillomavirus (HPV) test, called cotesting, every five years.
Women typically need mammograms starting at the age of 40 or earlier if they have a family history of breast cancer.
In addition to your cancer screening exams, Dr. Cardenas offers comprehensive diagnostic testing using the RM-3A analysis. You can have this diagnostic testing during your well-woman exam or as needed when you’re experiencing new health issues.
This five-minute non-invasive analysis can show you essential health information at a glance. The RM-3A analysis can predict and diagnose cardiovascular, nerve, metabolic, and other issues. Having this knowledge allows you to start preventive care and avoid significant health crises like heart attack and stroke.
When should I schedule gynecology exams?
Dr. Cardenas recommends you schedule well-woman exams once a year. If you have new issues, such as painful periods, prolonged periods, intrusive menopause symptoms, urinary incontinence, sexual wellness issues, or other problems, schedule an additional exam as soon as possible.
Many women experience problems such as hot flashes, urine leakage, mood swings, extremely painful periods, or pain during sex. Unfortunately, many women assume that these problems are something they have to deal with as they age; that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
If you have serious women’s health issues, don’t hesitate to schedule a gynecology exam with Dr. Cardenas. He offers a wide range of solutions for women’s health issues, including hormone replacement therapy and uterus-sparing procedures like ablation.
